They learnt about nationalities and gender by watching videos and by practicing pronouncing it loud. They also revised for their unit test and clarified their doubts. SPANISHStudents learnt how to give directions, using ‘Prepositions of place’ in their Spanish lessons. To strengthen their understanding of Prepositions, they played a game using prepositional terms “dentro” - inside, “fuera” - outside, “a la derecha” - to the right, “ a la izquierda - to the left and so on. Students enjoyed learning the Preposition of place words by way of a game. SOCIAL SCIENCE HISTORY AND CIVICS Topic Early Societies Students started their journey in History by understanding the prehistory under the topic ‘Early Societies’. They explored ‘The Stone Age’ and gathered information about Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic ages. Students researched about the tools used during these periods and drew them in their notebooks. As a map marking activity, they also located different Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic sites in Political map of India. To further their understanding, they watched a video based on Civilization and Cities and wrote their reflection using See-Think-Wonder (a Visible Thinking strategy) GEOGRAPHY TOPIC-Heat Zones The topic ‘Heat Zones’ saw students learning about distribution of heat on the surface of the Earth with the help of the light of a torch. They clearly understood that focused and direct sun's rays cover a smaller area but the heat is more while inclined rays spread over a larger area but the heat is less. In this context, they got to understand that between Equator and the tropics lies the zone of surplus heat while beyond the tropics the heat deficit goes on increasing. MATHEMATICSStudents came back after a busy vacation with the challenging Holiday engagement completed. The work was discussed in class and assessed by their peers. This was followed by introduction to the topic ‘Whole Numbers’. Different properties of whole numbers were discussed in class. Students understanding of the properties of whole numbers was done as a reflection. They furthered their understanding to learn about Indian and International Number System and learned to form smallest and largest numbers with the given set of numbers. Also students solved mathematics quiz from the newspaper which is named as BRAIN TEASER SCIENCEPhysics: Students had a discussion and reflected back with their understanding about "Electricity". They visited the school corridor to see various points from where electricity is controlled. They defined basic components of electricity like bulb, cell, wire, switch etc. and visited robotics lab where they learned how the flow of electricity takes place from source to bulb and they made electric circuits. with the help of activity by using different substance students were able to explain difference between conductors and insulators. They drew diagram for electric circuits and defined open and closed circuit with the help of open and closed switches. Biology Anything that surrounds us and affects our growth and development is environment. To study about various components of the environment, the students of class VI went for the ‘Nature Walk’ in the school premises. They observed and jotted down various components and sorted them into biotic and abiotic components. The same was followed by a ‘Group Discussion’. The agenda for the same was Interdependence of Biotic and abiotic components. The responsibility towards the maintenance of balance in the ecosystem was the take away of the activity. Chemistry As a responsible citizen, we shall not only raise a hue and cry for our rights but shall be responsible for our duties as well. To make the students realize the same and make them aware about the importance and the ways of maintaining cleanliness, a group discussion was held in the class wherein the students discussed about biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials. The outcome of the discussion was taken in the form of 3-2-1 activity. The students listed the 3 new facts learnt, 2 most astonishing ones and 1 was their commitment for the environment. They took a pledge not to use foil paper for packing lunch but would prefer bringing cloth napkin/ paper wrap. ICTStudents explored several features of Windows 7 such as disk clean up, Jump list, exploring picture folder, ripping and burning CD/DVD. They used calculators for simple and complex calculations. They also learned its salient features such as Aero Flip 3D, SHAKE and SNAP. By the end of this chapter the students learned how to organize their system and make maximum use of its features INDIAN MUSICStudents are understanding and improving to sing in rhythm. They are practicing vocal warm up exercises through SARGAM. They also learnt about parts of TANPURA and watched a demo on how to tune a Tanpura. WESTERN MUSICChildren learnt a beautiful song ‘Hall Of Fame’ and presented it during the Investiture Ceremony. They also learnt C minor scale in their western music lesson, They also enjoyed practicing vocal music, play the piano and guitar individually which they did enthusiastically. ART & POTTERYIn their Art lessons, students made posters on ‘Save Tiger’ campaign using oil pastels. They were taught step-by-step on how to draw animal figures and the landscapes. In their Pottery lessons, students enthusiastically learnt the techniques of making animal figures and made their models elephant and tiger figures. PHYSICAL EDUCATIONStudents were introduced to the game of Tennis. They were made to understand the basic rules of the game and the markings on the Tennis court. The focus was to make sure everybody is able to grip the racket properly and are able to make contact with the ball. They learnt how to play the forehand stroke in the game of Tennis. LIFE SKILLSStudents understood the in-depth meaning of the word “Empathy”. They watched a video which was a case study related to the topic, after which they wrote a self-reflection. The purpose of the topic chosen was To develop empathy by being more considerate towards everyone by being more considerate and understanding Thereby developing their emotional maturity DRAMAStudents learnt about the different sounds and movements of animals. They also learnt how to identify the character and modulate their voice accordingly. They took their learning and used it in their Drama lessons on a small act related to animals. Students are learning to perform confidently on stage with appropriate voice modulation and body movement to justify the role being played. ROBOTICSIn this session students learnt the basics of electricity. It helped students learn about the evolution of electronics. They understood the concept related to open - closed circuit and the breadboard and its use. They learnt about series and parallel connections in a circuit and were able to make a circuit using 3 LEDs. They studied about different types of switches and their functions in real life by building a staircase using multiple switch. MOVIE OUTINGLearning with fun is an essential part of student’s life. Keeping this in mind and in sync with the theme of the month "animals", students were taken out for movie "The Lion King". The recreational activity helped the students to bond with their peers in an external environment. NATIONAL SCIENCE MUSEUM TRIPTell me & I forget, teach me & I remember, involve me & I learn As part of their educational journey, students visited the National Science Center, New Delhi where they had their curiosity piqued and were left pondering about everyday phenomenon that happen and go unnoticed. Right from Early Civilization to Human Biology section, from the Dinosaur era to fascinating and fun science experiments & optical illusions, the whole museum had the students enthralled. It was definitely a trip where the explorers within the students was evident and tells us that curiosity at this age will make innovations happen in the future.
